The Give a Gift programme is fundamental to the building of sustainable communities. The goals are to help those living with HIV/AIDS to sustain themselves, and to facilitate the placement of those orphaned by HIV/AIDS with extended family members.
Under this programme, donors can buy an animal or provide funding for individual projects that benefit the broader community. Payment is made to Akhonya Trust in the UK, and money is subsequently wired to Kenya. Local partner, SAIPEH, selects families to receive the gift, and donors are sent a photograph and letter from the gift’s recipients.

The Trust is in the process of expanding a give a gift programme by which donors can buy cows, goats, and chickens to provide IGAs, to expand the reach of this project. SAIPEH-run AIDS awareness programs that differ in several important ways from many of the international programmes. They have a well-established drama group that perform sketches, songs, and skits at local villages and markets in individual dialects. AIDS prevention is thus articulated in an accessible manner to people in an informal setting. The drama group have recently produced a music CD with a strong AIDS message that they are selling to partially fund their mission.
An important pilot project recently implemented has been experimenting with using goats rather than cows for income generating activities (IGAs) because the nutritional composition of goats' milk seems to be better for people with HIV/AIDS.
