ELECTRICITY

Electricity arrives at "The Akhonya Trust Children's Home"

Today is a very special day in the history of the ' Akhonya Trust ' and indeed the entire community of ' Ematundu '. As many of you already heard the electricity was connected and went live yesterday.

This is an amazing achievement which has seen telegraph poles & cables brought 25kms from the nearest supply, the installation of sub stations and a transformer and the complete wiring of our Orphanage and Resource Centre which was made possible by the donation from the  'Jens Hinrichs memorial fund'. This is very poignant as it is a year to the day of the loss of Jens.

I'm sure the ' Big Fella ' will be smiling down on the amazing sight of our children turning on computers, watching DVD's learning to use electric typewriters and sowing machines etc, etc, etc.

It is hard to express in words the difference this will make to everyone's lives over there, and how delighted and proud I am that this has happened, by all of us pulling together as a team.

Thanks to everyone of you for your support, generosity and dedication.
Richard Young

Below are some of the comments from our Kenyan friends to express the true impact of this achievement:

" Someone here to toast and celebrate , I was on the orphanage yesterday to physically see with my eyes and what a surprise every time the light is switched , and poor rural little kids holding one anothers hand and pointing to each one of the bulb that is shining. They run around in great agitated explanations pointing to the wonder of light in the roofs .It is humbling experience . We have much to celebrate as the whole of the boma of our loved chidren will kick into life with the hume of the flour mill , the click of typewritters , the hizzing of computers and it shall be said' behold the people that sat in great darkness has seen a great light" May God bless all of us and in its stead also light one bulb of joy in each one of us."
Martin Wanzala- Occupational Therapist who oversees the Corrective Surgery programme

"Greetings in the mighty name of the Lord and savior Jesus Christ .We are very grateful to God our Father the greater of heaven and earth who has joined us together in every country in the world in serving the orphan child.
We are grateful to all our sponsors worldwide, who donates tirelessly to change the lives of the orphan child, may the grace and the light of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you too ever.
Your generous donations has seen the Akhonya Trust Children Home connected with electricity .The electricity has transformed the children home into a modern society as now the children uses lights , they are able to use electric sewing machine , typewriters and computers. It is a great benefit to the entire community.

This has now made us access skills that were usually very hard to access without electricity. It has enhanced our vision. As we are also able to use electricity, to the poshomill. And this has transformed orphanage into a centre of excellence.
May the blessing , and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. As the bible says , blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy."
