December visit to Akhonya

Visit to Kenya 8th December 2008

As a child sponsor I was desperate to meet the lad whose life I would be instrumental in change for his future.
Although the prospect of how many vaccinations were needed I was pleasantly surprised I had little or no side affects.
The journey was smooth despite hours to wait for our flight to Kisumu we took the opportunity to visit Niarobi Elephant Orphanage and time to shop for essentials which were too big to carry with us.

The genuine friendly warm welcome we received from Amos at the Airport puts you at your ease immediately. Our journey to the Children’s Home took another hour or so as we arrived at the gates all we could hear were 130 children’s voices singing welcome, welcome over and over again I will never in my entire life forget the sound and the smiles as the car drove into the gardens their chorus was relentless. As we got out of the car I looked to my right and there he was my own Donald - shy but never the less grinning from ear to ear.

Every sponsor should experience a visit to meet their child and to feel their deep gratitude that you have taken the time to meet them.
When it is we who should feel privileged for the way in which we are appreciated. Every day we spend with these wee souls equates to months in their time.

To journey to Kenya and meet others responsible for Saipeh and Earac projects which Akhonya contributes to help you understand what is really important in life. In addition to making one feel very humble for the opportunity to meet people in dire need of care you are so heartened by what Tachyon is doing for them.

I came home with rafts of thoughts as to what I could do as a contribution towards a great cause. Every single penny people contribute goes to Kenya unlike the large charities who spend donations on ad campaigns and staff salaries Akhonya Trustees do their work voluntarily and god bless them for what they have given to those needy people.

Go meet your Kenyan child whom you sponsor – it feeds not only your soul – theirs too.
